Zoe denies everything, but the officer has already made up her mind: “turn around and put your hands on the wall for me.” Zoe sets her phone down and puts her palms flat against the door. Mackenzi ratchets a black ASP chain handcuff onto her right wrist, then locks the left, pinning both hands behind her back. She reads Zoe her rights, kneels down, and clamps a set of black ASP shackles around her ankles with the chain swinging between them. The cuffs get double-locked, tighter notch by notch. “I think they’re tight enough,” Zoe says. They are not loosened. After a full pat-down, Mackenzi walks her out the front door and Zoe shuffles to the booking room in her ankle chains. There the same black ASP handcuffs are brought around to the front, and Zoe is sat at a steel table where a long-chain handcuff set links her cuffs to a heavy anchor bar bolted to the tabletop, pinning her to the desk. The officer steps out to collect her belongings, leaving Zoe cuffed in front, shackled, and chained to the table, testing the slack and wondering what she has gotten herself into.
